And a Great Time Was Had by All
by Paster Dave McGarrah
Elliot Chodoff
It was an outstanding three days that we were privileged to have with our friend, Elliot Chodoff. A number of you reading this know who we’re talking about. Elliot is a Major in the IDF reserves and also a political, military and strategic analyst specializing in the Middle East and the global war on terrorism. Elliot spoke several times in different venues, sharing the latest happenings in Israel and it’s neighborhood. What he brings to the table is clarity to what we hear on the news, the back story that helps understand the context, and then adds to it what we don’t hear through the media.
Elliot’s background is deep. He’s served in the IDF for over 35 years. Co-director of the Fieldcraft Project in the office of Chief of Doctrine, infantry and Paratroops. He was a professor at Haifa University for many years and is sought after for his lectures.
Elliot covered the issue in Lebanon in its fight with Hezbollah, as well as the current state that the country of Syria is in. Added to that was insights into Hamas, the Hostage situation, and the difference that’s happening with the new administration verses the previous administration.
As you know, much of what is happening in Israel and with her neighbors can change like the weather. Two ceasefires and both are still intact, but at the same time, being violated by the enemy. Hamas is not living up to the agreement when it comes to the hostages, and Hezbollah is not observing the line drawn by the agreement that they are not to cross and have any movement south toward the border of Israel. It’s questionable whether either ceasefire will actually hold. Each of these are on a limited time schedule to see if what was mapped out will actually be accomplished.
While Elliot was here, Prime Minister Netanyahu was also here meeting with the President. Trump rolled out a plan for Gaza that seemed to come out of the clear blue. He suggested that the US take full control of Gaza, clear out the Palestinians by moving them elsewhere, and then do a total makeover of Gaza. This would provide decent living conditions and a future for the people. Elliot explained that as good as this may sound, it is far more complicated than a real estate deal can fix. He then gave some great insights into “Why”.
We had a chance to have Elliot speak to our donors and to just really appreciate them and all they do to help us accomplish great things through Master Minded. We hope to be able to bring other great speakers to Idaho and share them with all we can reach. Thank you for your ongoing financial support, prayers, participation and encouragement! You truly bless us!
““Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise renews my life.””
There’s something about God’s promises that I think we overlook sometimes. I love to learn about God’s promises and I’ve memorized several. They are light to my heart and help me center myself in who God really is. That’s part of the beauty of the Living Water of the Word of God; it restores our souls. But there is even more of a profound impact when you realize that God is not only letting you know about Himself, but He is also giving you a glimpse of how He’s going to do what He’s going to do. When He tells you “I will never leave you or forsake you…”, He is telling you that there will be some place for you to go. There will be a journey involved, and it will probably take you someplace where you’re going to wonder about the benefit and intention of His will. He is also multitasking!!
It’s not all about you, but it is about you and your relationship with Him as much as it is for those you are getting involved with. Remember, He loves to get glory from His children in everything they do and everything they are.
His promises are specific for those who belong to Him and He provides for you! As His bride, you are embraced by those promises, they aren’t accidental!
The Apostle Paul says it so well in Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” God has purpose in everything that we face – because we face it together with Him!”
Renewal Through His Word
Every time we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, we encounter His promises anew. Our problem these days is that you can google “God’s Promises” and get anything you want! I’m not sure that it works that way. God has specific ways of encouraging and blessing you and unless you are committed to reading and studying His word, it doesn’t work to pick and choose which promise you want!
He loves to be intimate with you and what is going in your life. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." This promise of renewed strength is a testament to the transformative power of God’s Word in our lives.
“Fear not. For I am with you; Be not dismayed. For I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”
Promises of Provision and Protection
One of the most profound ways God’s promises renew our lives is through His provision and protection. The story of the Israelites is a powerful testament to this truth.
Despite their rebellion and lack of faith, God remained faithful to His promise to lead them to the Promised Land. In our lives, we can trust that God will provide for our needs just as He did for the Israelites. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus."
This promise renews our faith, reminding us that we are never alone, and our needs will always be met by our loving Father.
Promises of Peace and Rest
In a world filled with turmoil and anxiety, the promises of God offer us peace and rest. Jesus Himself promised in Matthew 11:28-30, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
This invitation to rest in Him is a promise that renews our weary souls. It assures us that no matter how heavy our burdens may be, we can find solace and rejuvenation in His presence.
Living in the Light of His Promises
To live in the light of God’s promises, is to live a life of unwavering faith and hope. It is to wake up each day with the assurance that the Creator of the universe is intimately involved in every aspect of our lives. It is to face challenges with the confidence that His promises are true and steadfast.
Joshua 21:45 declares, "Not one of all the Lord's good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled." This verse is a powerful reminder that God’s promises are not bound by time or circumstance. They are eternal truths that have the power to renew and transform our lives.
The Promise of Eternal Life
Among the many promises of God, the promise of eternal life is the cornerstone of our Christian faith. John 3:16 encapsulates this promise: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." This promise not only renews our hope but also gives our lives a profound sense of purpose and direction. The assurance of eternal life encourages us to live each day with the knowledge that our earthly journey is but a prelude to an eternal existence with our Creator. This perspective transforms our daily struggles and challenges, renewing our resolve to live according to His will.
A Call to Trust and Obey
God’s promises call us to a life of trust and obedience. They challenge us to surrender our fears and doubts and place our full confidence in His unfailing word. As we trust in His promises, we are called to live in obedience to His will, knowing that His plans for us are good and perfect.
In conclusion, the promises of God renew our lives by providing us with hope, assurance and strength. They remind us of His unfailing love and faithfulness, encouraging us to live each day with confidence and joy. As we hold fast to His promises, we are renewed in our faith and empowered to live lives that reflect His glory.
The good news for us is that just like Noah prior to the flood, God has something for us to do – it may not look like an ark, but it’s preparing for the end. Are you building your “house” on a firm foundation? Are you diligently storing up your treasures for Heaven? (Matthew 6). Are you living for the things that last forever, people? Are you “throwing off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles so we can run the race marked out before us?” (Hebrews 12) The fact is this, everything is telling us that time is racing and there’s still so much to do. God is opening up opportunities and we’re looking for more workers to join us in the fields. You may start feeling a call to join the ranks, don’t discount that God wants you in the race, participating with the team, not on the sidelines waiting and watching!
Start of 2025
2025 starts off with a flurry of activity for MMM. I am never without wonder and amazement for all that God is doing and how He is working. As 2024 came to an intensive closure, there is only the mounting anticipation of what’s coming next. We’re watching global upheavals, nations exploding, re-posturing politically and the world waits to see what will happen next. Then there’s the global catastrophes - the hurricanes, the fires, the volcanoes exploding and the potential ones unleashing the earthquakes. The recent accidents of planes colliding and so many people killed...it sounds biblical, doesn’t it?
No surprise – it is! The earth is reeling from all that man has imposed on it. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about global warming, but I am talking about things looking like the days before Noah and the flood.
Evil being rampant and unchallenged. It looks like with a new administration that there will be some changes, but we will see how the pendulum swings.
It's a great time to start living intentionally giving God glory with your life. Living thankfully and gratefully for all that He is to you and living in His love for you is life-changing. It’s important not to let the business of our days take us away from the fact that unless we are surrendered to Him, we are merely busy. We can do all the “good” and miss the fact that He has to be the motivator and momentum behind what we do and how we live. We haven’t been called to live good lives, we’ve been called to be holy to Him and live in obedience to what He calls us to. There’s a big difference! Power versus no power!
On the best note, however, is the fact that our God is faithful and true and He is still God and there is no other! I have some good news, a few upcoming events and then a challenge.
Then, my challenge to you. We continue to watch for opportunities to help Israel rebuild and heal. It is truly our heart to be able to respond when the need shows up. You help us with this. In 2024 MMM gave over $75,000 for various needs - from boots, to scopes, to food, to medical kits, to winter coats. We couldn’t have done that without our generous friends. You have made a difference.
March 14, we leave Seattle with 47 students and parents to fly to Turkey and Greece for an amazing trip following the steps of Paul as the Word takes on the world. We weren’t able to take them to Israel, but didn’t want to miss an opportunity to do something before they graduated. This is a trip of a lifetime for most all of them.
We have a host of upcoming opportunities and events that we will post as we get closer. We have dates for an Israel trip in October to follow in the footsteps of Abraham. This is a really exciting one where we will go see things we haven’t been able to see on other journeys. Please consider joining us.
I want to tell you about Anna. Anna is about 10 years old and she has a heart for God and for Israel. When she heard about what had happened on October 7, she decided to do something. She went door-to-door in her neighborhood to collect money for Israel! To date, she has collected over $300 for the needs in Israel! I want to tell you that I am so impressed at how God calls people to do extraordinary things, and you are right there in that category! God wants people to know that you don’t have to make things happen, you need to allow Him to do it through you!
I can tell you – it’s a blast! You’ll never regret being a part of Kingdom come to earth.
Thank you for taking time to read this, taking a step to love and support Israel and learn from His Word how He loves to show us His glory!
About Masterminded Ministries
Discovering the Jewish Roots of Christianity
Master Minded Ministries became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2008 as a result of our growing love to help Christians understand the Jewish roots of our faith. From the beginning we have felt the Presence of God. From that date we started putting together a newsletter to be able to share some insights and opportunities. We had been taking people to Israel with us each year and had a great time helping our friends really see and experience the land and the people of Israel. It has always been a very exceptional time and has even expanded in these more recent years. Shortly after becoming an official ministry, The Teacher and The Preacher began to air on KPDQ in Portland, Oregon, with our dearest friend and teacher Charlie Schiffman and Pastor Dave diving into the deeper topics of our Jewish roots. The conversation has taken on an arena that we never imagined. From conversations to guests that joined the conversation, each week held another surprise. Unfortunately, Charlie passed away in July of 2015. He is greatly missed, but God has continued to be faithful to the ongoing work that he and Pastor Dave began and we have been joined by two great
Jewish voices that have helped to continue the work. Harold Berman joined Dave for a brief time and then more recently Aaron Lipkin has become the partner in ministry. During these past 2 years of war, Aaron has been called up to leadership in the IDF and serves in his own area in Samaria. Aaron has an extensive background in exploration, helping to identify Joshua’s Altar on Mount Ebal and many other sites in the Judean hills of Israel.
You will notice that we will not be using the words of the media - West Bank, Palestine and such, because we believe that all of Israel belongs to Israel and regardless of biased ideologies, we will follow God’s Word that what God promised, He continues to fulfill to His people.
Thank you for your interest and support. The facts remain that God is going to accomplish what He wants to accomplish and through His children both those who are born in to the family and those who are grafted in, we walk in obedience to what He calls us to do.
Our promise to you is that we endeavor to be faithful servants of the King of Kings and hopefully bring enlightenment to the world He puts us in.
Any donation of support goes to this work and supports the education and printing of material, special guests and events. It also supports special scholarships to those who want to travel with us including pastors and students. In March we have 47 students and parents traveling to learn about the work of Paul and John. We air our Teacher and the Preacher program on 25 stations around the US and have a link to podcasts with more messages of Biblical insights. We invite you to join us as we watch God bring the two together to shine His light on the deeper things of God.
